Donald Trump wins ‘hair match’ at Wrestlemania
One of the world’s most famous “do’s” -- considered by many to be a fashion don’t - remains intact after its owner, Donald Trump, prevailed in the “hair match” at the entertainment wrestling event Wrestlemania.

Trump trumped World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon on Sunday in the “Battle of the Billionaires” at the WWE’s largest annual pay-per-view event. After the real estate mogul and reality TV star triumphed, he gleefully took the shears to McMahon’s head. Trump and McMahon didn’t actually battle it out in the ring, but instead had WWE wrestlers representing them grapple to see who would go bald. The winner, Trump’s guy Bobby Lashley, bested McMahon’s chosen wrestler, Umaga.

Weird But True

Couple commit suicide after pet dog dies

Unable to come to terms with the death of their pet dog, an elderly couple in southern India committed suicide by hanging themselves, police said on Monday.

The bodies of 67-year-old retired soldier C.N. Madanraj and his wife, Tarabai, 63, were found on Sunday in their home in a suburb of Hyderabad. Police said the childless couple had held a burial ceremony for their dog of 13 years, called Puppy , and hosted a feast for friends before hanging themselves in their bedroom. “The couple described the grief over their pet dog in the suicide note they left on March 29,” said Police Inspector V. Anantaiah.

Blind pilot flies from London to Sydney
A blind British adventurer touched down in Sydney Monday to end an epic 13,500-mile flight by micro light aircraft from London.

Miles Hilton-Barber braved snowstorms, freezing temperatures and torrential downpours during his 59-day journey under the supervision of sighted co-pilot Richard Meredith-Hardy. “It’s the fulfillment of an amazing dream,” Hilton-Barber, 58, told reporters at Sydney’s Bankstown airport. “I’ve wanted to be a pilot since I was a kid. Now I’m totally blind and I’ve had the privilege of flying more than halfway around the world.” Hilton-Barber, who lost his eyesight to a hereditary condition about 20 years ago, is hoping the trip will raise $2 million for the charity Seeing is Believing, which works for the prevention of blindness in developing countries. He took to the skies from Biggin Hill air base in south London on March 7 in a micro light aircraft, which looks like a cross between a tricycle and a motorized hang-glider, with the aid of an audio device that reads out navigational information such as air speed and altitude.

Japanese patch measures pet stress

Wondering if your dog or cat is stressed? Just stick a special patch on the bottom of its paw and you’ll be able to tell, according to a Japanese company.

The patch, developed by Japanese company Medical Life Care Giken, purports to measure the stress level of dogs and cats by detecting excessive sweat secretion - believed to be a sign of stress -- the Nikkei Weekly reported Sunday. “The round, pin-sized patch is applied to the center pad of the animal’s paw and changes color depending on how sweaty the pet is,” the Nikkei said. “The company, which makes a similar patch for humans, says it worked with researchers at Toyama University to study the sweat patterns of dogs and cats, which secrete sweat from their paws,” the Nikkei said. The company expects strong sales amid a pet boom in Japan, the Nikkei said. The patches are expected to go on sale in Japan later this year, with the price still undecided, it said. It did not mention plans for overseas sales. Doting Japanese pet owners are known to go to great lengths for their pets’ well-being, taking cats and dogs to specialist masseurs and even acupuncturists.

Busted busker -- no proof of rabies shots
When Gregory Pike was told he had to have a busker’s license for his strolling act consisting of a rat riding on the back of a cat riding on the back of a dog, he figured it would be no big deal to get the $35 license.

But Pike said that when he came out of city hall with the itinerant vendor license, he walked into city animal control officers. They gave him citations for $500 because Booger, his Rottweiler-Labrador mix, and Kitty, the gray-and-black cat, had no tags proving they had their rabies shots and had been spayed or neutered. Pike also was not carrying the required poop bags. Pike contends he is being harassed. But Carla Lopez, a spokeswoman for the city, said buskers who make their living with animals have to have the tags and have to pick up after themselves. “That makes it so it works for everyone,” she said. Pike had moved from Santa Fe to St. Johns, Ariz., for the warmer weather, but said he came back to Santa Fe to make a little money. “However, he may not be walking around the Santa Fe Plaza for long with Booger, Kitty and Mousie if he has to come up with $500 in fines,” he said.

Indian groom too drunk to wed, so brother steps in
Villagers at a wedding in eastern India decided the groom had arrived too drunk to get married, and so the bride married the groom’s more sober brother instead, police said on Monday.

“The groom was drunk and had reportedly misbehaved with guests when the bride’s family and local villagers chased him away, Madho Singh,” a senior police officer told Reuters after Sunday’s marriage in a village in Bihar state’s Arwal district. The younger brother readily agreed to take the groom’s place beside the teenage bride at her family’s invitation, witnesses said. “The groom apologized for his behavior, but has been crying that word will spread and he will never get a bride again,” Singh said by phone.

India woman imprisoned by in-laws for 15 years
Police in India have rescued a 40-year-old woman who was imprisoned by her in-laws in a dingy room for 15 years because she could not pay enough dowry.

Police said the woman, Madhavi Das, was naked and locked in the room when policemen broke in with help from neighbors on Saturday. “She was admitted in a mental asylum as years of solitary confinement has taken a toll on her sanity,” Siddhi Nath Gupta, a senior police officer, said on Sunday. Three members of the family, including her husband, were arrested. The most common reported form of domestic violence in India is dowry-related, where women are abused and beaten and even killed by their in-laws for not bestowing enough gifts or money to their husbands or their families at the time of marriage.
