I'm learning about Ethiopian famine, poverty, drought and debt in school at the moment. I've seen pictures and media clips of children suffering from diseases such as marasmus (lack of energy and food causing shrivelled, skin-and-bones body) and kwashiorkor (disease which swells mouth, stomach, hands, arms, legs so that even when offered food they cannot eat) and it's really affected me. Did you know that approximately 18 people die of hunger every minute somewhere in the world? And did you know that people in Ethiopia grow things called cash crops like flowers and lettuces just so they can ship them over to richer countries to get money so they can pay off national debts, NOT to feed their population? It's insane that even though there IS more than enough food to feed EVERY SINGLE PERSON in this world, those poor innocent people have to suffer so wretched and painful deaths. I think kids under 16 should be able to have jobs, 12 at the yongest thats old enough to make alot of your choices. Maybe not all of them, but alot of them. It's important to do this so that kids can learn the task of responsibilty at a young age. Chances are that they will learn how to manage money. In addition they can save up money for when their older. They can save up money for a car or even colage if they can't get a scholarship that is. When they get a car they can drive to collage and if they go to collage they'll get a better job that pays even more. Becoming more and more sucesful over time knowing more teacing their children more. Going on in a sucesful cycle unless it gets coruputed. If so the process can be easily be reasarted but only if people allow children under 16 to have jobs. That's why I think children under 16.
