The story of a swallow
When you sleep into a night soaked by a storm and wake up to a morning shining brightly, your soul is revived from a sleepiness of a long hibernation… At the end of a tiring year, ‘the story of a swallow’ dropped into my e-mail box in a small village on the coast where I run to kiss the salty lips of the sea…It was so beautiful and plain that I made up a childlike fable from eight to ten lines despite the risk of unknowing the author or the source and I felt like to put it into your present basket this New Year’s Day… The Swallow and The Man A swallow fell in love with a man. After plucking up its courage, it perched on his window. At first it stood upright insofar as one is able, After that it knocked on his window with its beak. ‘-Tap…tap tap…’ The man was so busy that he turned and looked at the window angrily: ‘-Who is keeping him away from his work?’ Thrills and spills in its little heart. Broken words spilled out of its mouth: ‘- Hey, man, I am watching you for a long time. Don’t ask the whys and the wherefores, But I guess I love you.’ The man was astonished: ‘- Where on earth you suddenly appeared on , You disrupted my work. Just on time as I was getting to concentrate more on it… The swallow fluffed its feathers. And she dropped a hint about her plan: Open your window let me in, Let’s live together forever… I would be both a partner at your dining table and your joy at home’. The man’s temper flared up: ‘-Look at this bird! (said belittlingly) what a silly thing to say… Just know your place, is it ever possible that a bird falls in love with a human being?’ ‘-Look! It’s really getting cold outside and I feel cold. If you let me in, I would also be cure for your loneliness…’ The man was furious and repelled it: ‘- Go away! Get moving, I am happy as I am with my solitude’ The miserable bird bent to his will. She flew away to the sky with the broken wing… After a time, just after the swallow, he began to feel regret: ‘- Oh! I am stupid, what have I done? I missed an opportunity comes along’. He consoled his lonely heart with…: ‘-When it gets hot, my swallow comes back. I let her in and share my loneliness’. When the winter passed and the summer came, the lonely man started waiting… But beloved didn’t drop by even once… He asked the flocks in a rush, but there was even no trace of his swallow. He felt so sorry that he went to consult to the wise man. The man told him all about, the swallow and his stupidity. The wise man got the message, however he nodded his head sorrowfully: ‘Ah my lonely son, how much you feel sorry is not enough because the life of a swallow is only six months’. When you sleep into a night soaked by a storm and wake up to a morning shining brightly, it is about the belief that of the year passed like a nightmare being expectant and bringing the shiny new years freshens up. Just you are at the end of a tiring year, you are with the loved ones in a pretty village on the coast where you run to kiss the salty lips of the sea… And if only the dropped letters into your post box tell you ‘appreciate the loves you have found’… Can DÜNDAR |
