Heaton (2003) states that the error in the sentence given above can be caused either by verb patterning or by wrong word choice. Would the reason of the error have an effect on inclusion of this error in a vocabulary test or not? Yes, if it is a verb pattrning error, it should not be included in a vocabulary test If the selction of lexical items is based on well-known word lists, the test writer should keep the following facts about word lists in mind based on written language difficulty levels of the words are not considered interference / overlap of vernacular and the target language is not considered What should a vocabulary test aim at? A vocabulary test should aim at testing vocabulary repertoire of the students and which of these words can be used by students DaNgERoUS! Guests cannot see links in the messages.
