Similes in American English

Every American knows most of these similes. A simile is a figure of speech in which two essentially unlike things are compared, often in a phrase introduced by "like" or "in", as in: He was as strong as a bull. I have given multiple choices so students can try their hand. The teacher then must give the right answer.

3. She's as wise as a horse - lion - tiger - owl

9. She's as sick as a pig -giraffe - hyena - dog
10. He's as gentle as a lamb -kitten - mouse - dove
11. She's as mad as a March hare storm May day loon
12. He's as hairy as a bear - ape - dog - monkey
13. She's as clumsy as a pig - dog - cow - ox
