Expectations - Beklentiler

"Be supposed to" kipi ile beklenti ifade edilir. Genellikle programlanmış olayların gerçekleşmesi beklenildiğinde kullanılır. " be to" daha kuvvetli beklentiyi ifade eder.

Örnekler:

The ship is supposed to arrive today.
The ship is to arrive today.
Geminin bugün gelmesi bekleniyor.

He is supposed to come.
He is to come.
Gelmesi lazım (gelmesi bekleniyor).

He is supposed to be rich.
Zengin olduğu zannediliyor.

Where is that road supposed to go?
Acaba şu yol nereye çıkar?

The film is supposed to begin at 10:00 o’clock.
The film is to begin at 10:00 o’clock.

The committee is supposed to meet tomorrow.
The committee is to meet tomorrow.

The match is supposed to end at 11:00.
The match is to end at 11:00.

“Be supposed to” ve “be to” ifadeleri kişilerden yapmaları beklenen işler için de kullanılırlar. “be to” kurallar, kanunlar, emirler, direktifler ile belirlenen haller ya da davranışlar için daha uygundur.

Örnekler:

You are not supposed to do that.
Bunu yapmamalısınız.

You are to stop when the light is red.
Kırmızı ışık yandığında durman gerekir (durmalısın).

The students in English class are to take 3 exams for each course.
All applicants are to fill in the application forms.
